OHS ACTIVITIES OFFICE 2010 SUMMER NEWSLETTER

Updated 7/21/10 - go to Files and Links to download copy. Changes have been made to Freshman Orientation and Packet/Schedule pick-up since the original summer newsletter went out.

From Director of Student Activities Pat Full

Another school year is right around the corner and many of our teams are busy training this summer for another successful year. Before you know it, Fall Sports will begin practicing.  It is critical that you have a completed Physical (dated after May 1, 2010) on file in the Activities Office.  You must also have turned in an Emergency Care Form.  A very important date to mark on your calendars is Friday, August 6, 5:00-6:00 when we will verify that all fall athletes have correctly completed physical forms on file and emergency care information to the coaches.  This will take place in the cafeteria.  At this time, individual fall coaches will distribute any additional information on tryout and practice schedules.  See below for information about paperwork, tryouts and preseason conditioning. Enjoy your summer and GO COUGARS!

FALL SPORTS TRYOUTS

Tryouts will begin on Tues., Aug. 3 for golf and Tues., Aug. 10 for Football, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Cross Country and Cheerleading.  (Dance Team tryouts were in the Spring.)  All athletes must have an emergency care form AND a doctor’s physical dated after May 1, 2010.  The physical must be recorded on the official Virginia High School League Physical Form. All forms are available in the Activities Office and the website.  Physicals should be mailed to the Activities Office by July 28th.  MAKE A COPY FOR YOUR RECORDS BEFORE MAILING IT IN.  (OHS Activities, 2900 Sutton Rd., Vienna, VA 22181)  If you mail in the emergency care form with the physical, write the sport(s) in the upper right hand corner so we can give it to the coaches. Athletes will not be permitted to try out without these forms.  Tryout updates will be put on oaktonathletics.org in early August.  Reminder:  Mandatory drop-in “registration” for all fall athletes (except golf) on Friday, Aug. 6, 5:00-6:00 in the cafeteria.  (Physicals will also be held at OHS on Mon., Aug. 9th 6pm for $50 pre-registered. Check oaktonathletics.org in early July for registration information.)

Tryouts will be 8/10 and 8/11, 5:00-8:00 and 8/12, 2:00-6:00.    Practice will start on 8/13.  Camp dates are available in the application packet.  To be added to the cheer email list, please contact Coach Kim Brooks: oaktoncheer@gmail.com
